Crystal Palace are in the hunt for an Aaron Wan-Bissaka replacement following his £50m departure to Manchester United this summer and one player that looks to be out of their reach is Chelsea’s Reece James after a £20m bid was rejected – much to the delight of some of the Stamford Bridge faithful.

James is yet to even feature for Chelsea in a senior appearance but has hugely impressed during the first loan spell of his career last season, at Wigan Athletic. He played 45 times in the Championship, scoring three goals, assisting three more and he even picked up seven Man of the Match awards as Wigan finished in a lowly 18th position.

The Wigan Player of the Year was also amongst the Championship Team of the Season and was part of the England Lions’ 2017 Toulon Tournament winning squad. This summer, he was again part of the team in the very same tournament but during the final group game against Chile he was stretchered off with an ankle injury.

Many fans at Chelsea believe James is the future at right-back with one fan suggesting he is a legend in the making and will be an international someday. Another supporter hoped Davide Zappacosta would move aside so that the 19-year-old could get his break.

The rising talent is expected to be out through injury until at least September but that hasn’t stopped members of the Stamford Bridge crowd throwing their support behind him claiming he’s worth £200m and that he should be kept at all costs.

Here’s the best selection of tweets from Chelsea supporters surrounding Palace’s bid for James:
