Frank Lampard is ready to axe two of Chelsea’s big-money flops after they failed to impress him during pre-season, at least that’s according to the Daily Mail.

They report that the Chelsea boss has seen enough of Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko in the club’s tour of Japan to warrant their departures this summer.

Drinkwater, a Premier League title winner, cost the club £35m from Leicester in 2017 and has only made 23 appearances with the midfielder only playing the Community Shield last season.

Bakayoko joined the club the very same year for £40m but after a disappointing debut season in West London, he was sent out on a season-long loan to AC Milan. The 24-year-old has played 43 times for Chelsea and is even more likely to be culled with Lampard limited to just 17 overseas players under Premier League squad registration rules.

A number of the Stamford Bridge faithful took to social media to share their thoughts on the potential departures with the overriding feeling being that of joy.

One supporter said Bakayoko was one of the worst players the club have had since Roman Abramovich took charge of the club in 2003, claiming the defensive midfielder was stealing a living as he is terrible at passing, has a terrible first touch and can’t even read the game.

Others said they had high hopes and that they’ve been let down whilst one fan compared the two failures to Virgil van Dijk, who cost the same amount at £75m and has gone on to be a Ballon d’Or contender.
