Frank Lampard’s pre-season preparations continued in thrilling fashion as they recorded a second win in a row. It was goals galore as Reading hosted Chelsea with the visitors coming out on top with a 4-3 victory. Goals from Ross Barkley, Kenedy and a brace from Mason Mount helped secure another win.
There were a lot of takeaways from the match including the performances of the English pair fighting it out for the number ten role but the overriding worry was about their defence having conceded three against a side that struggled in the Championship last term.
Reading finished 20th, seven points off relegation whilst Chelsea ended the season 3rd in the Premier League with the joint-third best defensive record.
A number of fans flocked to social media, begging that Lampard fixes the defence as soon as possible – one supporter even labelled it a disaster. Another supporter compared the showing to Arsenal, who have had huge defensive issues themselves in recent times, calling it a disgrace.
Others said it was disgusting to concede three goals against Reading with one fan pleading that they don’t do that in the Premier League in a couple of weeks’ time. The performance even led to one member of the Blues crowd asking whether the defenders even turned up…
