There appears to be a change of attitude over in West London this summer. Jorginho, once dubbed as ex-manager Maurizio Sarri’s son by former midfielder Cesc Fabregas, was often criticised throughout periods of last season. However, his latest comments may have turned the tide with a number of supporters lauding the defensive midfielder.

Jorginho played in almost every game, making 54 appearances across all competitions and was often the scapegoat for when games didn’t go to plan whilst playing ‘Sarriball’. The 27-year-old joined the club in a £50m fee last summer from Napoli – following Sarri to the club. He has faced scrutiny since day one – at times his name has been chanted but he has also been booed.

Fans took to Twitter to share their opinion on his latest comments surrounding his future at the club now that Sarri has gone with one supporter brandishing him captain material. Others simply said Jorginho for captain and one even called him “my captain”.

Even despite his rocky relationship with the Stamford Bridge crowd, the Italy international has been praised for his attitude – ‘elite’ and ‘top’ were two words used to describe his mentality whilst another fan said his surreal work ethic will make it easy for him to become undroppable under new boss Frank Lampard.

Here’s the best of the reaction from some of the Stamford Bridge faithful:
