One of Chelsea’s promising midfield talents signed a new contract yesterday and then was shipped out on loan. Luke McCormick has committed himself in West London for a further three years and will ply his trade at League One side Shrewsbury Town this season – the news has left many supporters wondering if he will come good or turn out like former flop Charlie Colkett, who now operates in the Allsvenskan with Ostersunds.

McCormick is yet to feature for the senior side and spent much of last season on the injury table – of the 16 games he did feature in for the under-23s he impressed, netting eight goals and assisting two more from central midfield. The Chelsea website labels him a hard-working and tough-tackling player.

On hearing the news, a number of the Stamford Bridge faithful took to social media to share their opinions. One supporter questioned whether or not it would be a good move dropping that far down the English pyramid whilst others prayed that he doesn’t end up like Colkett who went to the very same club on loan, failing to impress before being shipped out permanently.
