After the failed marriage between Alvaro Morata and Chelsea, it seems the club were delighted with the £48m sale of the Spanish striker.

ESPN’s Chelsea correspondent Liam Twomey reckons that the sale of Morata suits all parties. He also reckons Atletico have been fleeced by Chelsea for the second time in three years.

He said: “Morata’s sale is the best outcome for all parties. Fee around £48m.”

“It’s also the second time in three years that Atletico have given Chelsea a better price for a problematic striker than they could have got elsewhere.” (Source: Twitter)

Not quite, Liam

With Morata only going for a reported £48m, and Chelsea going into next season with Olivier Giroud, Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham, the club could live to regret the permanent sale.

Morata showed during his loan spell with the Spanish club that he still has a lot of quality as a striker. The 26-year-old scored six goals in 15 appearances at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, as Atletico Madrid finished in second place in La Liga.

Morata’s league tally of 11 goals in across both the Premier League and La Liga is more than Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi managed last season combined last season.

Losing Morata could yet come back to bite Chelsea as they look to move on from what was a nightmare spell with the Spanish striker.
