Chelsea fans feeling down over the departure of Eden Hazard may have been tickled by a surprising suggestion from a former opponent – after a light-hearted trip down memory lane.
Jonathan Walters became an instant Chelsea hero (and the scourge of many fantasy football managers) after having the mother of all nightmares back in January 2013, when he scored two own-goals and missed a penalty as The Blues ran out 4-0 winners at Stoke City.
Boasting an impressive record of two goals in zero appearances for the club, Walters cheekily suggested that he could be tempted out of retirement to continue his good work for Chelsea now that Hazard has left a space for a new attacker to take over.
Chelsea fans responded in fine spirit, and while some were pretty brutal to current Blues strikers, others seemed more than happy to take up Walters on his offer – with comments just as tongue-in-cheek as the former Irish international’s were (we think).
In the midst of the drama surrounding Maurizio Sarri and their transfer ban reportedly being upheld until the summer, some fans jokingly cursed the timing of Chelsea’s ban as Walters’ bit of fun brought some much-needed joy to the supporters:
This is class mate! Super ???????? Jonny ???????? Walters ???????? #MOTM
