With no permanent transfers coming into Stamford Bridge in the near future, you’d think the chance to squeak one over the line before the impending transfer ban takes effect would excite Chelsea fans.
However, the opportunity to lengthen Mateo Kovacic’s stay at the club has supporters at odds with each other.
An Evening Standard report suggests that despite FIFA’s restrictions on new arrivals until next summer, the club can still make the Croatian’s stay at the club permanent before his current deal expires at the end of June.
A move for Gonzalo Higuain in a similar vein is said to be off the cards following his disappointing stint in the Premier League, but Kovacic may warrant a longer stay at the Bridge.
Though judging by these tweets, the 25-year-old may have to further prove himself to the supporters should he decide to make his move from Real Madrid a permanent one.
Kovacic has not hit the heights at Chelsea during his loan spell, registering just two assists in 51 appearances – and is yet to find the net for the club.
And while the midfielder is still receiving backing from the stands, reception over potentially prolonging his Chelsea career has been decidedly mixed:
Really hope we sign him ????????????????????????
