Speculation has been circulating for weeks as Maurizio Sarri’s reign as Chelsea boss looks to be over with a move to Juventus in the offing.

Fans have been expecting Frank Lampard to take the hot seat should the Italian depart – but a report from his home nation suggests a familiar face could be set to replace him – and supporters can’t believe it.

Tuttosport report that the club has been in contact with Rafael Benitez, with Roman Abramovich hoping to secure a Stamford Bridge return for the Newcastle boss before Sarri departs for Turin.

Benitez may have led Chelsea to third place and a Europa League title – just as Sarri did last season – but the reaction to a potential comeback has been met with widespread panic throughout the Blues fanbase.

Despite steadying the ship at the club following the sacking of Champions League-winning boss Roberto di Matteo, the tweets below suggest Benitez doesn’t hold the kind of connection with the fans that you might expect after delivering another European trophy during his brief interim spell.
