Former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has claimed Eden Hazard could move to Real Madrid in January, he told Sky Sports’ The Debate Show.
Belgium international Hazard has been heavily linked with a move to the three-time consecutive European champions in recent months and his future remains shrouded in speculation as he enters the final 18 months of his deal.
Chelsea are desperate to retain the services of the 27-year-old but Schwarzer, a former Blues team-mate of Hazard, claims that he could seal a transfer in January.
“I’m not so sure that he won’t leave in January. He’s got just under two years left on his contract, Real Madrid are having a shocker at the moment, if they come in in January and offer a lot of money for him and the club realise at that stage that he does want to go and won’t re-sign, what are the club going to do?
“Depending on the situation at Chelsea, where they are in the league, that could play a lot in it as well. He’s been very honest. He’s never ever complained. He’s had such love and passion for the club and I admire him being honest.
“Some people will be upset by it but ultimately he’s talking about Real Madrid, he’s not talking about wanting to go to a competitor or direct rival in the Premier League. Real Madrid are one of the most successful clubs on the planet.”
