Real Madrid are preparing to swoop for Chelsea star Eden Hazard when the transfer window reopens in January, according to Cadena Ser.

The defending Champions League winners have endured a poor start to the season under new boss Julen Lopetegui, sitting fourth in the LaLiga standings after suffering two defeats in their opening eight matches.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus in the summer led to Real’s interest in Hazard but Maurizio Sarri was able to persuade the Belgium international to remain at Stamford Bridge – but a fresh approach is around the corner.

According to the reports, Real Madrid are readying a move due to the fact that Chelsea have failed to tie Hazard down to a new contract and club chief Florentino Perez is desperate to land a top-class addition in the New Year.

Real’s interest is aided by the fact that a change to UEFA regulations means January recruits can now be registered to play in European competition even if they have featured for another club during the 2018-19 campaign.
