Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has emerged as a shock target for Barcelona as they seek long-term defensive additions, according to TribalFootball.

The France international earned a recall into Didier Deschamps’ squad this week for the upcoming games against Iceland and Germany, with Barcelona scouts set to keep tabs on the defender during the international break.

Currently on loan with Everton, the 23-year-old has played seven times in all competitions for Marco Silva’s side this season but has only been on the winning side twice, one of which was an EFL Cup clash with Rotherham.

With an average match rating of 6.44 in the Premier League from WhoScoredit is clear that Zouma still has a long way to go if he is to establish himself as a candidate to play for some of Europe’s biggest side and Barcelona’s reported interest is surprising.

The report says Ernesto Valverde’s side are considering a swoop as they seek a long-term replacement for Gerard Pique, who is now 31 and approaching the twilight years of his career.
