Chelsea are set for disappointment in their attempts to land Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi and Genoa’s Krzysztof Piatek, according to The Evening Standard.

The Blues are keen on bolstering their attacking ranks in the January window and Maurizio Sarri has identified the Serie A duo as ideal recruits, although he is set for frustration if he pushes to complete a deal.

Icardi, Inter’s captain, has a whopping release clause of £97.5m in his clause with the Italian giants and is understood to be only interested in leaving the San Siro if the possibility of a move to Real Madrid emerges.

Meanwhile, Genoa are adamant they will not sell Piatek in January after his blistering start to life at the club has seen the Poland international score nine goals in just eight Serie A appearances.

Piatek is more likely to be on the move at the end of the season but the indication is he would prefer to remain in Italy.
