Chelsea are looking to go all-out in the transfer market to bring Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi to Stamford Bridge, according to The Mail.

Maurizio Sarri has identified the need for a new first-choice striker in January after being unconvinced by the performances of Alvaro Morata, who has scored just twice this season, and Olivier Giroud, who has not found the net at club level since May.

With the Blues currently tussling with Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, Chelsea are keen to make a statement of intent by luring a top-class addition to the club and Argentina international Icardi is top of their wishlist.

The 25-year-old has scored four goals and contributed two assists in seven Serie A matches so far this season as well as netting twice in the Champions League, including a dramatic late winner against Tottenham.

However, he would be an expensive addition as Inter are desperately trying to secure their captain down to a new deal ahead of the summer where a £97.5m release clause comes into effect.
