Chelsea have missed out on Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu after the Irish club confirmed that the teenager will be joining Manchester City.

The Blues and Tottenham were keen to snap up the 16-year-old but the young shot-stopper has opted to make the move to the Etihad Stadium instead.

Bazunu has already made six first team appearances in goal for Shamrock, despite his young age. He made his debut back in June in a League of Ireland match against Bray Wanderers.

He kept goal for the next four games, keeping four clean sheets. He was also given his opportunity in European competition, after being picked to play in both legs of Shamrock’s Europa League qualifier against AIK Solna in July.

The youngster will move to City for £400,000 in 2019, after being allowed to stay in Ireland to complete his education before moving to play for the Manchester club’s Elite Development squad next summer.
