Chelsea have given permission for Derby County to use loanees Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori against the Blues in the EFL Cup, the Rams have revealed.

The duo are at Pride Park for the season to play with Frank Lampard’s Championship side and will return to their parent club for next week’s EFL Cup tie against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have given special permission for Mount and Tomori, both of whom impressed in the previous round’s victory over Manchester United, to feature in the game as they believe it will provide valuable experience.

Lampard, set to make his managerial return to West London, thanked Chelsea in quotes published on the club’s official website.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chelsea, their director Marina Granovskaia and manager Maurizio Sarri for allowing Mason and Fikayo to be available for selection for the Carabao Cup tie.

“We’ve been in dialogue with Chelsea since the draw was made and it’s great, first and foremost, that the players will have the opportunity to test themselves against a top side.”
