Chelsea are set to hand Antonio Rudiger a new contract after securing Marcos Alonso’s future, The Daily Mail reports.

The Blues secured 27-year-old Alonso down to a lucrative new deal until 2023 this week and Rudiger is the next player on their list.

Rudiger still has more than three years to run on the deal he signed upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge in 2017 but is set to be rewarded after a solid start to the season has seen the Germany international craft a fine relationship with David Luiz.

Chelsea are keen to secure the 25-year-old’s future after encountering problems with Eden Hazard, who has entered the final 18 months of his deal, and Thibaut Courtois, who pushed through a transfer to Real Madrid in the summer.

Rudiger has been ever-present for Chelsea in the Premier League this season in their unbeaten run of nine matches, scoring in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
