Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has revealed he is set to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge imminently, speaking to AS via The Evening Standard.
The Blues full-back played the entirety of Spain’s 3-2 UEFA Nations League defeat to England on Monday and has slotted into Maurizio Sarri’s first-choice line-up down the left side of defence this season.
Alonso, who signed from Fiorentina for a reported £23m fee in 2016, is now due to be rewarded with an extension to his contract at Stamford Bridge – stating a deal could be penned ‘in the coming days’.
“I am very calm and very happy at Chelsea. The club must also be happy with me because, although I still have two years left on my contract, they have offered me an extension.
“We are talking about it and the talks to renew are already advanced. If everything goes well, I think I will renew before the end of this month – in the coming days.”
The Spaniard has been linked with a move to Real Madrid but Chelsea have no intention of allowing the 27-year-old to leave.
