Chelsea defender will be offered a new one-year contract, according to the Evening Standard journalist Simon Johnson.
The Brazilian has been an important first-team player under Maurizio Sarri so far this campaign, and could now be rewarded with a new deal.
However, not all fans are enthusiastic by the prospect of the 31-year-old extending his stay at Stamford Bridge, with many wanting younger players to be given a chance:
Clinging on to old guard when we have a better younger alternative in Christensen is just the most Chelsea thing to do

1 year contract should be enough, he's won everything with this club and it's about time we start moving on

Christensen is a better player but he lacks confidence at the moment.

Some were delighted that Luiz will be at the club for another year:
@DavidLuiz_4 Sign him for life and make him club captain! We are very lucky to have him @ChelseaFC

Only 1 year and we start preparing for his replacement

You cant have a bunch of 20 yr olds in a team . You need atleast 2-3 older experienced players

There’s no doubt that the Brazilian international has struck up a good partnership with Antonio Rudiger this season. Still, the switch to four at the back has meant the likes of Andreas Christensen have had limited game time.
Both the Dane and Ethan Ampadu are seen by many supporters as the future, but their progress could be halted by extended spells out of the team if Sarri persists with Luiz and Rudiger over the next couple of years.
