AC Milan Sporting Director Leonardo is keen on the Italian club signing Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, according to Tuttosport (via Calciomercato.com).

The Spaniard’s contract expires in the summer and there have been no reports so far about an extension to his current deal. The Rossoneri could enter talks with the player about a move as early as January.

Fabregas has been struggling with a knee injury that he picked up in the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City at the start of August.

He returned as a substitute against PAOK Salonika in the Europa League last week but hasn’t made an appearance in the Premier League so far this campaign.

The 31-year-old could start against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night, but his position as a regular first-team player under Maurizio Sarri is not assured.

In Fabregas’s absence, both Ross Barkley and Mateo Kovacic have been utilised alongside N’Golo Kante and Jorginho, and the Spanish midfielder will have to battle for a place in the side.
