Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic was a target for Chelsea this summer but the Bosnian international turned down the move, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Italian website reports that the Blues boss Maurizio Sarri wanted the 28-year-old to make the switch to Stamford Bridge. However, the player opted to stay at Juve and sign a new contract.

Pjanic put pen to paper on a new five-year deal back in August and is a regular first-team player for Max Allegri’s side, having started all three league games for the Bianconeri so far this campaign.

The Bosnian is a holding midfield player who directs play from deep and was probably an alternative option to Jorginho if Chelsea failed to land the Italian international.

The Blues also went on to sign another midfielder, Mateo Kovacic, on loan from Real Madrid this summer with the Croatian having started the last two Premier League matches against Newcastle and Bournemouth.
