Chelsea are “closely monitoring” Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski’s contract negotiations with the Serie A side, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Polish international is reportedly a long-term target for both the Blues and Liverpool, but the playmaker could soon sign a new deal to stay with the Partenopei.

Zielinski currently has a €65m (£58m) release clause but if a new contract is agreed, this could possibly increase to over €150m.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri managed the 24-year-old for two seasons at Napoli, but the midfielder was never a firmly established first-team player under the Italian.

During his first year after his €16m move from Udinese, Zielinski started 18 league games, but he managed just 14 starts last season.

The Polish star has featured more prominently under Carlo Ancelotti so far this campaign, making five starts in all competitions, and scoring two goals in the 3-2 win over AC Milan at the end of last month.
