Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj could sign a new contract with the Italian club in the next few weeks, according to his agent.
The Albanian international was heavily linked with a move to join up with former coach Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea, but speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss (quotes via TMW), Mario Giuffredi confirmed he is waiting on the Partenopei to come back to him with a proposal:
“We talked about it [the contract] before the market [opened], then there was the Chelsea talk for Sarri, Napoli will now make its evaluations and we’ll see in the next weeks.”
Hysaj came through the youth academy at Empoli when Sarri was manager and then moved with the Italian to Napoli for €5m back in 2015.
The right-back’s current deal at the Stadio San Paolo expires in 2021 but the interest from the Blues means the Serie A side are keen to tie up the Albanian to a new deal.
Under new manager Carlo Ancelotti, Hysaj remains a first-team regular, having played the full 90 minutes in the wins against Lazio and AC Milan, and the defeat to Sampdoria prior to the international break.
