Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu has signed a new five-year deal, the club have confirmed.

The 18-year-old excelled whilst playing for Wales on international duty recently, but hasn’t featured in the Blues’ first team this season.

Fans on Twitter were delighted that Ampadu has committed his long-term future to the London club:

Some supporters want the Welshman to get more game time under Maurizio Sarri.

It has been a pretty meteoric rise for Ampadu. Just two years ago, he was playing for Exeter City in League Two after making his senior debut in an EFL Cup tie against Brentford.

After making a £2.5m move to Chelsea last summer, he was then afforded first-team opportunities under Antonio Conte, making seven appearances in total.

His performances led to a call-up for Wales, and he made his debut for his country as a substitute in the 2-0 friendly defeat to France in November last year.
