Chelsea underwent significant changes over the course of the summer, as Maurizio Sarri arrived from Napoli to rejuvenate the squad.

The last few weeks of the window proved to be busy for the new Blues boss, with Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic drafted in to bolster the ranks in central midfield and a world-record sum for a goalkeeper spent to land Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao as Thibaut Courtois sealed a move to Real Madrid.

However, Sarri wanted further changes to his side at Stamford Bridge and was widely reported to be keen on signing Argentina international Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus, who eventually sealed a move across Italy to join AC Milan.

Quoted by Sky Sports Italia after Saturday’s 3-0 victory against Huddersfield Town, Sarri admitted that there was some regret about not completing a deal for the experienced forward.

“Higuain? It’s a little regret but in the end everyone after the market has a few little regrets.”

Chelsea must instead stick with what they have until January at the earliest, with Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata the choices at Sarri’s disposal after Michy Batshuayi moved on loan to Valencia.
