The transfer window in Europe remains open until the end of August and Chelsea could face a battle to retain the services of an experienced forward.

France World Cup winner Olivier Giroud has courted the attention of Ligue 1 giants Marseille, who are looking to bring the former Montpellier man back to Ligue 1, and French outletĀ Le 10 SportĀ states they will not end their pursuit.

Chelsea lack depth up front after approving Michy Batshuayi’s loan exit to Valencia and have just Giroud and Alvaro Morata as their only two recognised senior strikers within Maurizio Sarri’s squad, making an exit for the 31-year-old unlikely.

However, after his exploits in Russia with his nation Giroud may be looking for a more senior role within the squad and Chelsea are unable to offer that, which could lead the experienced striker to push for an exit.

With just weeks to go before the window slams shut in Europe and Chelsea unable to sign a replacement, this deal can be ranked as extremely unlikely to occur.
