Chelsea appear to have missed out on a top-target due to the transfer window closing last week, as it has left the door open for a European giant to take advantage.

Italian outlet Il Sole 24 Ore states AC Milan have reached an agreement with Lazio for the services of midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic which will total a mammoth fee of €120m – broken into a €40m loan agreement for 2018-19 and a permanent deal costing a further €80m at the end of the campaign.

The Serbia international was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League over the course of the close season, where he featured for his nation at the World Cup, but neither Chelsea or Manchester United could complete a deal.

Chelsea eventually bolstered their midfield with the captures of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic, the latter arriving from Real Madrid on loan, and any chance of signing the 23-year-old now appear to have been wiped away.
