Chelsea have already bolstered their midfield ranks this summer with the capture of Jorginho from Napoli but remain in the hunt for new additions.

CalcioMercato states the Blues have entered the chase for Real Madrid ace Mateo Kovacic, who rejected a move to Manchester United earlier this week as he is not keen on the club’s style of football under Jose Mourinho.

The Croatia World Cup finalist has struggled to earn regular starting action at Real Madrid due to competition with the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, with the 24-year-old said to be open to working under Maurizio Sarri.

Real Madrid have already received interest from Serie A trio Inter Milan, Roma and Juventus, although the Champions League winners are not keen on approving a sale.

Kovacic has informed the club he is keen to complete an exit from Madrid but new boss Julen Lopetegui is preparing a revolution at the Santiago Bernabeu which could see the talented midfielder handed a new lease of life.
