Chelsea are edging closer to their second major acquisition under Maurizio Sarri, following the capture of Jorginho last week, and the former Napoli boss is returning to Italy for targets once again.
The Evening Standard is the latest to report that a deal bringing Italy defender Daniele Rugani to Stamford Bridge is poised to go ahead, with the Blues offering a £77k-a-week five year deal to the 23-year-old defender.
Rugani’s arrival will increase speculation on the future of club captain Gary Cahill, who lost his position in the first-team under Antonio Conte last summer and is considering bringing an end to his six years at Stamford Bridge.
Currently on holiday after his World Cup exploits with England, Cahill is seeking talks with Sarri when he returns but he has suggested he has plans for the 32-year-old – although it remains to be seen whether it will be enough to persuade the former Bolton man to stay.
