Chelsea are in the market for defensive additions this summer following Maurizio Sarri’s arrival and his raid on Italian football looks set to continue.

The Blues have already secured the services of Italy international Jorginho from Napoli and are widely reported to be closing in on a deal to bring Daniele Rugani to Stamford Bridge from Juventus – but he is not the only defender Chelsea want to snatch from the Serie A champions.

Sky Sports Italia state Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have both made advances to Juventus regarding the services of Mattia Caldara, who spent last season on-loan with Atalanta and is yet to make his debut for Max Allegri’s side.

The 24-year-old, who earned his Italy debut against France last month, signed for Juventus last summer but remained in Atalanta for the 2017-18 season – where he made 43 appearances and scored seven goals.

Juventus are not interested in selling the talented centre-back but Chelsea are looking to take advantage of their vast competition for places at the heart of their defence, which has already allowed them to seemingly lure Rugani from their clutches.
