Maurizio Sarri’s work is underway at Chelsea and the former Napoli boss looks set to continue his raid of Italian football, having already drafted in Jorginho from his old employers.

The Blues are now seeking defensive additions ahead of the commencement of the Premier League season in just a few weeks time and have identified Juventus defender Daniele Rugani as their prime defensive target.

23-year-old Rugani worked with Sarri previously during the duo’s time with Empoli, with the first campaign being in the second-tier of Italian football, and a reunion is one the cards – as The Times reports that fresh talks with Juventus have been held.

Rated at around £40m, Chelsea are reluctant to meet the asking price of the Serie A champions and negotiations will need to reach a compromise if a deal for the centre-back is completed.

Chelsea have also been offered the chance to sign Bosnia midfielder Miralim Pjanic, the report adds.
