Chelsea are looking to rejuvenate their squad under the guidance of new manager Maurizio Sarri and the midfield is a major area of focus.

The Blues have already signed Italy international Jorginho from Napoli and are now said to be eyeing the services of Colombia international Wilmar Barrios, who currently plays his club football in Argentina with Boca Juniors.

TyC Sports state Chelsea are battling Premier League rivals Everton and Tottenham Hotspur for the services of the 24-year-old, who has a lowly release clause of just £15.9m.

However, Barrios is reportedly set to stay with Boca until December 2018 and Chelsea would likely have to pay an increased fee if they wanted to land the combative defensive midfielder prior to the new Premier League season.

Chelsea are likely to approve departures to make room for more midfield arrivals, with former Arsenal and Barcelona man Cesc Fabregas widely reported to be a player that could be offloaded in Sarri’s overhaul at Stamford Bridge.
