Chelsea are set to embark on a significant spending spree under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri as they look to play catch-up in the transfer market.

The Blues already secured the services of Italy international Jorginho from Napoli last week and are now looking to add his compatriot to their defence, as Sarri aims to lure Daniele Rugani to Stamford Bridge from Juventus as his second major signing.

According to reports cited by The Daily Express, Rugani has agreed terms with the Premier League side for a five-year deal and a medical will take place in the next 48 hours, with Chelsea paying around £45m for the 23-year-old.

Chelsea are also eyeing a deal to bring Gonzalo Higuain in from Turin, with the club willing to offload both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud, but Rugani’s signature is the current priority – and it could lead to an exit for long-serving England defender Gary Cahill.
