Chelsea have endured a turbulent start to the summer as their managerial saga rumbles on but the Blues are hoping to swiftly find an agreement and embark on a summer spending spree.

The Evening Standard states Chelsea are keen to land Daniele Rugani from Serie A title winners Juventus and have submitted a £35m bid for the Italy international, as they look to make the defender the first signing under Maurizio Sarri.

Former Napoli boss Sarri is widely reported to be on the verge of taking charge at Stamford Bridge and a focus on improving the defence will emerge, especially with David Luiz consistently linked with a move to Italian football.

23-year-old Rugani played with Sarri previously for two years during a loan stint with Empoli and is open to an exit from Juventus after starting 22 Serie A games last term.

Convincing the Italian giants to sell will be difficult but Chelsea are prepared to double Rugani’s current earnings in Turin, offering him a £60k-a-week deal.
