Chelsea are braced for widespread changes this summer, with Maurizio Sarri poised to finally take charge at Stamford Bridge, and his first priority is to improve the club’s defensive ranks.

It’s expected that Sarri will ditch the three-man defensive line that the Blues have come accustomed to under Antonio Conte, instead shifting back to a four-man defence – which could spell an exit for David Luiz.

Cesar Azpilicueta could also revert to his more natural position on the right side, with Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Gary Cahill the three options to play centrally – though Sarri is looking to provide further depth with a new addition.

According to reports cited by ReadChelseathe Blues are ready to match Kostas Manolas €36m release clause with Roma as they look to bring the Greece international to the Premier League.

Manolas has consistently been linked with a move to England in recent years and, while Roma are desperate not to sell, the release clause present in the 27-year-old’s contract leaves them helpless.
