Chelsea are looking to significantly improve their ranks in the summer market but face a struggle after failing to qualifying for the Champions League next season.

That may influence their ability to lure top targets to Stamford Bridge and it seems it may have played a part in missing out on a highly-rated midfielder, who was being chased by a number of Premier League sides.

Reports in Italy state Manchester City and Napoli have reached an agreement for the transfer of Italy international Jorginho, who will reportedly move to Pep Guardiola’s side in a deal worth £43m.

Jorginho, also heavily linked with Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, excelled for the Serie A runners-up last season, playing 33 league matches and putting himself on the top of Guardiola’s shopping list for the Premier League champions.

Chelsea’s lack of Champions League football, alongside Arsenal, meant the London pair were always likely to miss out, while City’s financial power is significantly higher than that of Champions League finalists Liverpool.
