Chelsea are eyeing considerable changes to their ranks after failing to qualify for the Champions League and have received a major boost in their quest to land a prime midfield target.
The Blues are widely attributed with an interest in OGC Nice’s Ivory Coast international Jean-Michel Seri, although they face competition in the market from Napoli and Borussia Dortmund.
Both European sides would be able to hand the 26-year-old Champions League football next term, whereas Chelsea cannot, although it’s now suggested that Seri would prefer a move to the Premier League – even if it means turning down the opportunity to play in Europe’s elite competition.
Issuing an update on the situation to Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast, journalist Dharmesh Sheth said:
“I am told the agent [of Seri] is looking to meet Napoli’s officials next week. Seri is tempted by wearing the jersey of Napoli. Chelsea do have an interest and his preference is to play in the Premier League. He would forgo the Champions League to play in the Premier League.”
