Chelsea have been widely linked with midfield additions in the summer transfer market but it seems they will miss out on one reported signing.

The Blues had been named amongst the sides interested in OGC Nice ace Jean-Michel Seri, alongside Premier League rivals Arsenal but the Ivory Coast international is set to move to Italian football to join Serie A runners-up Napoli.

Seri’s agent, Franklin Mala, has revealed the 26-year-old is edging closer to a move to Naples and is keen on joining the side that has recently named Carlo Ancelotti as their manager.

Speaking to CalcioNapoli24, he said:

“We hope to have positive news in the next fews hours in Naples. Informal contacts with Napoli, there is still no lunge from De Laurentiis’ company. We are ready to meet Napoli. Napoli is in pole position.”

“Seri prefers the Piazza di Napoli compared to others, all in such a way as to close the negotiation. The €40m (£35m) termination clause expires on July 15, so you have to pay it by this date. After July 15, Nice can ask for any amount.”

“Arsenal? No, I do not want to talk about it. There are two teams of the Premier [League] on Seri. I cannot say anything else. Image rights are not an obstacle.”
