Chelsea are eyeing a huge amount of business this summer, which could prove to be expensive, and it seems they’ll have competition in the market if they revive their interest in a defensive target.

The Daily Express claims Arsenal have joined the chase for Napoli’s Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly, who the Serie A runners-up value at a whopping £53m.

Centre-back Koulibaly was widely reported to be a target for Antonio Conte’s Chelsea last summer and, despite the likelihood that the Italian boss will leave after this weekend’s FA Cup final, the Blues could return for the 26-year-old.

Continued links with Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri will only increase speculation that Chelsea are back in for Koulibaly, as Sarri may eye a reunion with his defensive star, but the price-tag placed upon the head of the defender is an issue for both Premier League sides.

Neither Arsenal or Chelsea will be playing in the Champions League next season, after finishing outside the top-four, and as such their budget may not be able to stretch enough to complete a move for Koulibaly, who could attract further interest this summer if he excels at the World Cup.
