Chelsea could be made to pay for their failure to secure Champions League football for next season as a number of top European sides could be looking to take advantage by swooping for some of the Blues’ stars.

Eden Hazard has regularly attracted interest from a number of clubs, notably Real Madrid, but it appears the serial Champions League winners could face competition in the market for the signature of the Belgium international.

The Daily Star states Premier League champions Manchester City are eyeing a sensational swoop to land the highly-rated attacker in a potential record-breaking move.

Pep Guardiola is said to have made the 27-year-old his prime target for the summer transfer window and is confident of luring Hazard to the Etihad Stadium, readying an offer worth £100m – which would set a new British transfer record.

Hazard has two-years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and has issued a warning to the club’s hierarchy, publicly suggesting they need to spend to retain his services, and City will attempt to take advantage of the situation.
