Chelsea’s Premier League campaign reached a disappointing conclusion on Sunday following a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle, which saw them miss out on Champions League football for next season, and it’s likely Antonio Conte will lose his job as a result.
The Blues can still achieve success by beating Manchester United in this weekend’s FA Cup final but it seems the writing is already on the wall for Italian boss Conte, especially as Chelsea are linked with a shock move to replace him.
The SunĀ claims Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has sensationally identified Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino as his ideal candidate to succeed Conte in charge at Stamford Bridge, after the Argentine boss’ stellar performances in north London.
Pochettino has guided Spurs to Champions League football once again but refused to commit his future to the club after the Premier League’s finale on Sunday, as he publicly requested backing from the club’s board to show they have the same ambitions.
With Spurs moving to the refurbished White Hart Lane this summer, the transfer kitty will be restricted for Pochettino and it’s clear he’s not happy about it – although it would still be a surprise to see him join Chelsea.
