Chelsea are eyeing significant reinforcements to their ranks this summer after missing out on Champions League football this season and an intriguing rumour has emerged on the continent.

Spanish outletĀ SportĀ state Chelsea and Manchester United are fighting for the services of Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba, who is set to star for Spain at the World Cup in Russia next month.

Alba caught the eye in Barcelona’s LaLiga winning campaign this season, providing 11 assists to his team-mates, and his form has not gone unnoticed by the Premier League duo, who are keen to bring him to English football.

However, 29-year-old Alba has recently revealed his desire to finish his career at the Nou Camp and it would be difficult to lure him to the Premier League – particularly with Chelsea being unable to offer Champions League football.

He would also prove to be an expensive acquisition given his importance in the Barcelona side, which makes it unlikely a deal will go ahead.
