Atletico Madrid are interested in signing RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, according to Bild.

Earlier this season the German international revealed he would be interested in a move to Chelsea, among a number of English clubs. He was quoted by Sport Bild as saying:

“In Spain there are a maximum of three clubs, Barça, Real and Atlético Madrid. In England it’s a bit more: Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City. “

Now it seems that one of those clubs that Werner mentioned are actively pursuing him. Bild claims that Atletico scouts were in the stands to see Leipzig win 2-0 against Augsburg on Friday night.

The 21 year old is very highly rated in Germany, and has become a regular starter for the national side under Joachim Low, starting the draws against England and France in November.

Atletico are believed to be looking at Werner as a possible replacement for Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman has become unsettled at the Spanish club following interest from Barcelona in the summer.

The German forward has actually scored more goals than the France international this season, with Werner hitting the back of the net 14 times to Griezmann’s 12.
