Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane could be used in a part exchange offer to persuade Chelsea into selling goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, according to Don Balon.

The Spanish publication reports that the French international’s form has dropped this season, and the Spanish club could be prepared to offload the centre back.

Real president Florentino Perez is said to be very keen on signing Courtois from the Blues, although there is still some doubt over whether the La Liga giants will bid for the Belgian or Manchester United keeper David de Gea.

If Perez does indeed go for Courtois, then it seems that Varane could be included as part of the transfer. With all this being said though, the decisive factor will be whether the Belgian stopper signs a new contract.

The 25 year old’s current deal expires in 2019, but there have been some good signs coming from the player that he will agree to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Earlier this month, Courtois revealed that he was close to signing a contract extension, but some journalists, including Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, have indicated the player still has his sights on a move to the Bernabeu instead.
