Roma are weighing up whether to sign Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi on loan as part of the deal that would see Edin Dzeko move in the other direction, according to Calciomercato.com.

The Italian club will desperately need a new number nine if they sell the Bosnian striker, but they are unconvinced that Batshuayi is the player they need.

The Belgian forward could not play in the Champions League after playing for the Blues in the competition already this season.

Roma face a winnable last 16 tie against Shakhtar Donetsk in February, and it means they would be short up front for the two legs if they agree to the swap deal.

In any case, Batshuayi’s switch is still dependent on Dzeko moving to Stamford Bridge. La Gazzetta Dello Sport reports the 31 year old is hesitating on the decision to join Chelsea as he won’t be first choice and can’t play in the Champions League either.

The Bosnian has scored 12 goals in all competitions this season, and would be an ideal signing for Antonio Conte, who has been seeking a target man since last January.
