Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has confirmed the club will loan Kenedy to Newcastle United.
The Brazilian U23 international has been on the periphery of the first team this season, and speaking at his pre-match conference today, the Blues boss revealed the left back will be heading to St James’ Park:
“Yes, he (Kenedy) is going on loan to Newcastle. If the club decides to loan one player, they must decide to buy another or work with a young player like (Dujon) Sterling. I’m ready for both cases and then the club has to decide the best for the club.”
Conte’s comments suggest he is expecting a replacement for Kenedy in the very near future. Roma’s Emerson Palmieri is said to be very close to a £20m switch to Stamford Bridge.
The Evening Standard reports that the 23 year old has agreed a four year contract, worth £42,000 a week, but the move is being held up by Chelsea trying to sign striker Edin Dzeko as well.
Palmieri’s signing should still go ahead even if the move for the Bosnian international fails, but there seems to be still some negotiation required over the bonuses that the Blues will pay for the pair in addition to the €50m up front payment.
