Chelsea are leading the race to sign Real Madrid youngster Oscar Rodriguez, according to Don Balon.

The Spanish publication say the Blues see the Spanish Under 19 international as a “future Frank Lampard,” but they will have competition for the midfielder’s signature from La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Oscar’s contract at the Bernabeu expires at the end of the season, but Chelsea are believed to be willing to pay €8m (£7m) in compensation to sign the 19 year old. Barca on the other hand, are said to be unwilling to pay such a fee.

The attacking midfielder has been in excellent form in the UEFA Youth League this campaign, with three goals in four appearances for Real’s Under 19 team.

Oscar has also been a regular for Real Madrid’s B team Castilla this season, although his stats are not as impressive. In 19 Second Division B appearances, he has scored three goals and contributed one assist.
