Chelsea have tried to sign Gremio midfielder Arthur this month but the player has his heart set on a move to Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalan newspaper believes the Brazilian only wants to make the switch to the Camp Nou but his club are resisting the move due to how Barca have conducted their negotiations. They would much prefer another team to make a sizeable offer.
Arthur was an integral part of Gremio’s Copa Libertadores win in December, and his excellent passing means he is able to dictate play as a holding midfield player.
The 21 year old reportedly has a €50m (£43.6m) release clause, but past reports suggest that Barca may only bid up to €25m for the Brazilian.
A stand off will likely ensue between Arthur and Gremio, but there doesn’t seem to be any likelihood now that the player could change his mind and decide to join Chelsea instead.
