Chelsea and Manchester United will go head to head to sign Rochdale youth team player Keith Matheson, according to ESPN

The two Premier League teams are believed to have already enquired about signing the right back with the teenager impressing during his games for Rochdale’s youth team this campaign.

The Blues are said to have sent scouts to watch Matheson play for Rochdale already, but the League One club are determined to keep the full back.

Despite being just 14 years of age, the League One club have named the defender in match day squads for first team matches, and he looks to have a bright future in the game.

Chelsea have a great record of recruiting young players, although it must be said few have made it to playing regular first team football. Last summer, they signed another promising player from the English lower leagues.

Welsh Under 19 international Ethan Ampadu joined from League Two side Exeter City in July. The midfielder was given a first team debut by manager Antonio Conte in the Carabao Cup back in September, and has since played a further three times for the senior team.

Unlike Matheson though, Ampadu had already established himself as a first team regular at Exeter, having played 13 times for the Grecians.
