The father of Hamburg striker Jann-Fiete Arp has raised the prospect of his son leaving the German club if they are relegated from the Bundesliga this season.

The 18 year old was subject to an offer from Chelsea in the summer before he signed a contract extension with his current team, but speaking with German website Sportbuzzer, Falke Arp questioned whether it would be a good idea to remain at Hamburg if they are playing in the second division:

“If the HSV should descend, you have to ask yourself if it makes sense to go to the second league.”

Hamburg are currently second from bottom in the Bundesliga. They are only two points from safety but the German side have struggled for the past five years, finishing just above the relegation zone on a regular basis.

Arp has however been given his first team debut by the club this season, having scored two goals in his first three league games. He has so far made nine senior appearances in all competitions, making six starts.
